Palmetto Brewery

This is the oldest brewery in Charleston, SC. Started by some smart fellow in the 1800’s, then disappeared during prohibition, my old friend Ed Falkenstein and his pal Louis Bruce started it again in 1993. The original craft brewery in Charleston, (we now have well over 30) Palmetto Brewery has been through many iterations. My good friend Larry Lipov became a partner with Ed in 2016 and asked us to head the rebranding effort—which was constantly changing and adapting. Drawing on the interesting history of PB, I create a logotype that gave the feeling of a fine craft beer steeped in history. We created packaging that highlighted the Palmetto tree, from which the name was conceived, as well as promotional materials, signage, event branding and merchandise. Working with breweries and brewers is something i sincerely enjoy. Working with John Planty, and Larry and Ed on the renaissance of Palmetto Brewery was invigorating, maddening and huge fun. Like a good IPA, a little strong, a little bitter but taste great and a good kick in the head.
